SEASONS – SETTLING IN JULY (10-13)

SeasonsSummerFallWidgetBlog2_4269 copy Hello SEASONS bloggers, a summer color of the logo.
Join the fun Sunday July 10 Wednesday July 13 till 7 pm, Pacific time

LOVE all your beautiful photos you link up to SEASONS every week, and all the inventive, witty and thoughtful posts I read between Sunday and Wednesday evening!!
I appreciate the openness with which you allow others
to be a part of your life:)
What I really like is that there is no one-upmanship here, no vying for a first position – it’s fun just to share!

Am still living in the haze of last week’s 4th of July celebrations, On the other hand also mourning for five policemen being killed in Dallas last week.

This week it’s real. My first pic took 4 times, to load up –
next week’s SEASONS will be at http://Artworksfromjeshstg.wordpress.com

Sacramento2Bridge Pillar_2764

Several of you shared your vacation/fourth of July celebrations, so it’s only fair I share some of mine. My first choice  was a small town parade, but we could only find one at 7 pm, right before the fire works.  My sense was that the parade would be a marching band, so we ended up going to Old Town Sacramento. The original swing railroad bridge which had a facelift to accommodate the doubling of the Sacramento population(see Wikipedia)and has these pillars on both sides of the Sacramento river. This version of the bridge is a vertical lift bridge and was opened in 1935. It had a paint job in 2001 in gold to match the capital building nearby.

Old Town is kind of touristy/  You can imagine, with my previous job, I automatically observe people, but often it’s the kids who crack me up. This one looks like he’s going to be a police man, or a mayor. Anyway, he is going to have a VERY IMPORTANT JOB!

Pink Broccoli_7047

The day before, we went to the Farmers market (another people watching place, when I’m not taking pics),
we saw this – is it pink broccoli? Anyone?
This is the color straight out of the camera -no photo edits!

  1. LOL! I loved your thoughts about the little boy on his bike. They seem spot on!

I like that Bridge in Sacramento. I’ve photographed it before, but have wanted to get over and shoot it again from a different angle.

Hope your week-end is filled with fun.

I’m painting my second acrylic painting today in a class. Wish me luck!

      1. Hi Jesh, it was fun, but I don’t like this painting as much. I was just googling how to paint over a painted canvas. I’d like to get some acrylic paint and try it again. I have the reference photo so I can do over.

      2. Buy gesso at Michaels (it looks like white thick paste),
put on a few thin layers. If you painted on thick layers before, there may be some blobs of paint, you may want to sand it lightly with fine sandpaper (to get a smooth surface).
You don’t need a painting brush to put on gesso – probably be cheaper to buy a a cheap 1 1/2 inch brush for painting a wall or building.
Clean your brush well with water after use.
        Good luck!

  2. Yeah I’m still kind of recovering from the days leading up to the fourth myself, Jeanette. I didn’t know that about the Sacramento population explosion. Kids are typically good subjects and this one has a Cartman, “Respect my authoritay!” vibe going on. That’s some wild broccolli (another thing I can’t eat)—are we sure that’s broccoli?
My dad was a cop and the events of this week sicken me.

  3. It seems that so many areas in the west are experiencing a population explosion–we are definitely having one in Colorado’s front range areas. I never saw pink broccoli before! That little boy was very cute.
So many tragedies these days–very sad for all the innocent life lost!

    1. Thanks for coming by my blog! Yes, they are crazy hours but I sometimes go without much work so I take what I can. As to the pay … nothing special. I love joining in with Seasons!

  6. Hello Jesh, First, thank you for not giving up on me with the linky problems. I have figured out the problem was ‘me.’ With some great advice from a person who knows about linky I think I’ve got this now. Yes, we live in a beautiful place and my header is our view from our front deck.

We too are so sad about the loss of the policemen for such a terrible reason. Where will this end is our concern?

Your Seasons posts are always fun and interesting. The bridge is very different than most and the little boy is adorable. I have never seen pink broccoli. Only in CA. Smile!

    Have a great week.

  8. That iconic bridge — that is awesome. I remember that Sacramento is a big railway hub and I enjoyed the train museum there. And that little guy — so serious. Great shot!

  10. Great photos. And thank you for your comment on my “Marketing – Hillary the Uniter” postcard/cartoon. (I am not the Anne who you thought I was.) I think we share the same opinion about Hillary. My cartoon is showing what I think the US media will do next, to guarantee she gets elected President. I am not a fan of Trump, but the media bias is so blatantly obvious in this Presidential election that I can’t believe people don’t see through it. I, too, am mourning the loss of the Dallas police officers. Two wrongs do not make a right in my book. Right after the shooting, I saw a headline on CNN: “Who can heal America?” and that’s when I immediately knew where the Predictable Propaganda would be going: “Hillary can heal America! She will be the uniter! Trump is a divider.” (I didn’t bother to read the article. I don’t have much use for all of the biased, slanted news organizations.) She sent Top Secret emails over the Internet and stored them on an unclassified server, yet the FBI didn’t charge her. (A low level Government employee doing that would have been charged.) The FBI announced “no charges” one week after Bill Clinton had a secret meeting with Loretta Lynch on her private airplane. No appearance of impropriety there. The list goes on and on. And then today, Bernie Sanders endorses her, after campaigning against her because of her ties to Goldman Sachs, Wall Street, etc. How is she any different than a Republican? She’s not.
