THE GOOD; Not as well known as Napa Valley to the West, but  all around here are large and small vineyards, all protected by fences (hard to see here). Love the different (Tue) textures of the smooth leaves of the grapes and (Tue) trees, the hard rounded shapes of the stalks and the fence, and the soft grainy texture of the weeds.

Because of the dear deer I need to research which flowers they do not like to eat! Or, have them 6 feet off the ground. Since these are wildflowers, they’ll probably be toast:) for Nature Notes

A few months ago my son in law came home from work. His son Boo handed him his present. My daughter explained that whenever Boo won  marbles at a game at school, he saved them up 3 months long, to give to his dad as a  birthday present.

We were all touched – a total surprise. Hope he will stay this kind and compassionate.

THE RANDOM: The only place that is the next county over on our way to Vacaville. See the ducks and birds? Because the Water/swamp I couldn’t come closer. I do not know how this area is called, but it’s a few miles long. Tue Travel.

  1. Hi Jeanette…lovely pictures

I replied back to you in a comment, since I couldn’t answer your email (via comment) because you are set up as a no-reply commentor. So I can’t email you directly.

    Cheers,

  2. Hi Jeannette…Thanks for your note. I couldn’t reply because you are listed as a no-reply commenter, and since I recently updated my computer, your email was no longer found (?). Very kind of you to go to the effort of keeping me on your side bar. You are very kind. I very much appreciate it. I believe all you’ll need is a link to the image, which I can paste here. If you need the jpg itself, drop me a line at rmachweeler@gmail.com.

Good luck with the new forum.

    1. Yes, the same here – the deer ate all the leaves of my hydrangea (hubs had forgotten to put it back on the deck)! In this area everyone covers their veggies and fruit and flowers with deer netting or have a fence of 6 feet or over.

  3. That’s really a touching gesture by your grand-son. Really sweet and cute also. Also, really some nice pictures, especially that of the sun-set. Hmm…your deers look different from the north-east deers.

  4. I love visiting vineyards!
I find that the deer in my area do not like lavender or strong smelling herbs like rosemary. We spray annuals with a product called “Liquid Fence”–it smells bad but keeps the deer and rabbits away from the flowers for awhile–if it rains we have to reapply.

  5. I like to see the deer in our yard but this year they ate the tips off of all of the raspberry bushes and I got not raspberries. I hope they enjoyed them. I was pretty unhappy.

  6. Beautiful series of images. I do hope you find some flowers the deer will leave alone. They are great to see, but they can be destructive. Love the story of Boo’s generosity. Thank you so much for joining Friday’s Hunt. Have a great week!

  8. Hi Jesh, Your photos are always a wonderful treat to see. The wine country pic is so nice and the little girls playing are adorable. Love the deer and I have to say they love my lily blooms. Sigh! Your marble story is so sweet. Thank you for always presenting a fun and interesting post.
Happy Blue Monday and thank you for linking.

  9. I have not been to this area of California yet. I have to make a point to visit northern California more often. I am kind of running out of places to see in the south.

  11. That reminds me Highway 5 near Elk Grove or Walnut Grove. Probably not. I can’t see you dipping down that way to get over to Vacaville. That’s a great photo. i like how captured the swirly water in the foreground.

  12. Delightful sightings and photos, Jesh!
    Thoroughly enjoyed them all.

I love the photo of the fountain in your banner and the notion of planting seeds of compassion in our children, at a young age. What a delightful world that would make?

    Have a Happy Week ahead!
    Peace 🙂

Was on my Ipad viewing your post of the classic BMW motor cycle, but couldn’t get my comment going, so am not on the computer. I had no idea BMW had a motor cycle:):)

      1. Hello again, thanks for the visit and with regards to your comment. It seems a little confusing to link up as I can’t seem to find where I did now BUT can’t remember how I did. I just know I made a few tries before I found the correct link. I’m afraid I can’t remember how I got there now but will take special note next time and hopefully will be able to answer your question with confidence.

  14. You blogger folk who do these weekly posts amaze me. I would never have the patience to try to do each one. Those little girls are just the cutest….and the crown…that looks like mine. On my birthday, I always wore it to school so the kids would wish me a Happy Birthday and then get no homework. All the photos were wonderful, but the children stole my heart. Yes….your comment got through. Thank you so much. genie

  15. Hi Jesh,

Thanks for the mail. The school children go to a secondary school(mavo, huishoudschool ) in Lekkerkerk, Krimpen aan de IJssel or Capelle aan de IJssel. The more difficult secondary schools like Atheneum ( secondary modern school), which takes 6 years , are in Capelle aan de IJssel or in Rotterdam en Gouda. A lot have changed since I attended HBS and Trainingcollege for Teachers. Have a great week, kind regards to your husband.

  19. That does look like an attractive place, I’d certainly enjoy seeing it. And to answer your question on my blog – snow at our elevation in May isn’t uncommon (even occasionally in June), but we also get a lot of warm weather; variability is our weather word year-round.
