SEASONS – SETTLING IN JULY (10-13)

SeasonsSummerFallWidgetBlog2_4269 copy Hello SEASONS bloggers, a summer color of the logo.
Join the fun Sunday July 10 Wednesday July 13 till 7 pm, Pacific time

LOVE all your beautiful photos you link up to SEASONS every week, and all the inventive, witty and thoughtful posts I read between Sunday and Wednesday evening!!
I appreciate the openness with which you allow others
to be a part of your life:)
What I really like is that there is no one-upmanship here, no vying for a first position – it’s fun just to share!

Am still living in the haze of last week’s 4th of July celebrations, On the other hand also mourning for five policemen being killed in Dallas last week.

This week it’s real. My first pic took 4 times, to load up –
next week’s SEASONS will be at http://Artworksfromjeshstg.wordpress.com

Sacramento2Bridge Pillar_2764

Several of you shared your vacation/fourth of July celebrations, so it’s only fair I share some of mine. My first choice  was a small town parade, but we could only find one at 7 pm, right before the fire works.  My sense was that the parade would be a marching band, so we ended up going to Old Town Sacramento. The original swing railroad bridge which had a facelift to accommodate the doubling of the Sacramento population(see Wikipedia)and has these pillars on both sides of the Sacramento river. This version of the bridge is a vertical lift bridge and was opened in 1935. It had a paint job in 2001 in gold to match the capital building nearby.

A future patrol_6644

Old Town is kind of touristy/  You can imagine, with my previous job, I automatically observe people, but often it’s the kids who crack me up. This one looks like he’s going to be a police man, or a mayor. Anyway, he is going to have a VERY IMPORTANT JOB!

Pink Broccoli_7047

The day before, we went to the Farmers market (another people watching place, when I’m not taking pics),
we saw this – is it pink broccoli? Anyone?
This is the color straight out of the camera -no photo edits!

How did your week go?

TRAMS and BRIDGES and Such Things

My new header is a fountain in Irvine Center where we used to shop when living in Southern California (own photo)

WEEKLY BLURB: As in my previous posts of the Open Air Museum in the Netherlands, close to Arnhem, near the German border. Not only buildings and living conditions of the previous centuries, but also things to eat back then – such as candy, pastries, breads, next to today’s fast-food. Also, games, and skills like weaving, black smith, farming, wood logging, etc. A great way for kids to learn about history.

The city as well as nature have interesting things to offer. We are happy as long as we do not have downtrodden preplanned trips, tours or cruises. This  little shop is on Gia Via Del Biscione in Lucca (Tuscany), Italy. The outside of this tile maker’s shop belies the inside. Beautiful handmade tile and ceramic (dishes) work for 20+ years. This must be next door to Paradise:) Sorry couldn’t get the door to stand out more.

SEASONS – A VIRTUAL VACATION (end of May)

SeasonsSmall2WidgeBlueYelSunset_4269 copyHello SEASONS Bloggers,

This Sunday is in memory of the fallen soldiers in the USA, called Memorial Day Wow, this has come such an international site- love the many comments on your favorite kind of vacation/holiday. This and next week you can show a photo of this (your photo can be from another season)!

As always, the above is a suggestion and you can do a totally different subject. Visit some others after you linked -really worth seeing their whole post!

For you at blogspot – if you comment by clicking on the “cloud” top right, your comment will not show on the bottom, (I see it on the top though).

TO COMMENT: Click on the Title of this post, scroll and  the comment box will appear on the bottom of the post.

Matisse museum_2098

When you travel things do not always work out! Last time in Europe, at the museum of  Matisse, we hardly saw anything , because they did an overhaul for a new show in August. The guard we talked to, suggested jovial, “Well you can always come back next year!” We looked at each other, knowing he thought we were Americans, and all Americans are rich (haha), so we responded, “Maybe!”

Instead, we went across and had some fresh pastries and Tonic with lemon in the shade on the lawn (in Europe they drink Tonic as a soft drink). Nice (pronounce: Niece) is in the South of France at the Mediterranean sea. Similar climate as California, many of the same plants and flowers.

LeftBridalVeil

We can’t always have what we want, so now I rather be … painting a water fall on the right (Bridal Veil Falls) or a nature spot – 3 1/2 hrs. away. If I’m not mistaken these are the Cathedral mountains in Yosemite National Park

Blooming Cacti031

Or somewhere at the ocean ( near Corona deal Mar, Calif.) – fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, cruise, sailing ….

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

Thursday is my “new day off” since the challenge SEASONS finishes Wednesday night, and I work on looking for photos for the weekly  challenges/memes I participate in. By the way, I can strongly recommend them – they are consistent, and they usually leave me a comment in return. That is important to me.
Am ambivalent about the “likes” of WordPress since it’s not Facebook. The latter I use for easy contact with friends and family. How about you?

Seasons2WidgetBlueYelSunset_4269 copyDon’t forget to link to SEASONS – the link will open on Sunday (instead of Monday) , so from Sunday  -Wednesday. Anyone can join!
Am giving some suggestions or how to find a subject (although you are free to do your own thing).

Bridge n Pillers3950

THE GOOD: In 1911 this Tower bridge over the Sacramento River replaced the old railroad bridge,
since between 1910  and 1935 Sacramento’s population doubled in size. It was the first lift bridge in
Mellow Yellow
of the California high way system.

THE RANDOM & Outdoor Wed. a door on Balboa Island

Warm Heart: it takes considerable skill  to hang a door well. People are stressed when a shoddy job has been done. In Southern California one of hubby’s specialties was hanging beautiful doors, simple ones like this (this one is not one of them), or elaborate ones with side lights, etc.. People gushed about his work, gave him tickets to fancy restaurants, Xmas presents, etc., referred him to their neighbors and friends, which put a smile on my face!

BlueCowlBackChair_4679

THE FUN: My cowl (round scarf) – after the Lodge Pole pattern of Sarah Gresbach on Craftsy. Had been looking and looking since the summer for a thinner yarn round scarf /cowl – finally saw and liked this one – My super fast knitting project

THE FUN:  Sometimes I like sharp, sometimes blurry. Like a Memory

A photo edit, NOT a painting. But … it could become a painting:)

Burnt Tree Fence_8827

Tue Treasure & Tue Texture
Among the big Sequoia’s in the South of Yosemite Nat. park they left the trees that were burned in a fire a few years ago. Considering all things – very sad, but the upside is  that what nature left is still exceptionally beautiful. (you see stripes because the sun shines on certain parts). The fence must have been built after the fire!

Friday Hunt:
Start with N: Not Cool (referring to the fire)
Vintage: my take: the charcoal-ed trunk
Favorite: the Irises above

SEASONS -Last of March

Hello Blog Friends,
Hope your holidays were fun, meaningful, or even adventurous. Some of you got a new pack of snow! After that I didn’t have the heart to show you my intended beach pics … keep warm:)
This year earth amazes us with fog, snow, rain frequently. They say the Californian drought of -I don’t know how many years- is over!

Love to see what Spring brought you! The link is open from Sun eve. – Wed 7pm, US Pacific time. Any experience during the Season is great!

SEASONS – MARCH is ON

HELLO SEASONS Bloggers

IF you’re looking for my weekly post IMAGINE THAT, it’s right underneath this one.  On Thursday I will put the weekly post on top:)

Your contributions were so lovely and fitting last week! I couldn’t be happier and more pleased! Also, several of you showed friendship in endorsing SEASONS  on their blog – thank you so much:)

In my neck of the woods, March came in as a lamb -soft sixty degree weather with most days sun. But yesterday the lamb morphed into a lion … 41 degr. with first rain turning into snow!
You know anyone can participate! and “anything goes”  –  you can make your own variant, or follow mine. If you like, next week you can do something reminding us on St Patrick’s, or St. Paddy’s day (3/17)

There’s a wide path to see this view.  One time I looked up and a group of twenty hikers were looking on at a respectful distance. Then I looked more near me and a young Japanese dad was explaining to his 4-5 year old daughter, “See this here.. and that here … pointing! That was precious!

Comfort – too late – we ate it all! last week we took our two oldest grands to the Habit for lunch. We agreed that we all liked Jazz. Got to hear what Emily’s (left) future plans might be, which her younger sis didn’t even know (ha – I still haven’t lost  my (therapist) touch yet:) Don’t know if the Habit is in all parts of the USA, but it’s a step up from In-and-Out on some of their burgers.

Do you know the game “Simon says…” (it’s a follow the leader game)? It’s not how we raised our children. More the opposite- encouraging their own opinion, and going by their own desires instead of giving in to peer pressure.
