IRON and SORTS

Some posts start with drawing one leaf, then adding a branch, and before you know it, it’s a full grown oak. This post is like one of those:)

I love Iron gates! This small gate above, with the overgrowing flowers (I believe in Balboa park, San Diego) was perfect for a little watercolor in my sketchbook, field palette, and foldable water bucket

I carry them in my purse. If my wallet was not so bulky, there would still place for that too:)

an extremely handy field palette from Cotman of Winsor Newton, 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch
when you push in the thumb grip. The (blue) brush coming with the palette, is too tiny for me*

Iron pranks:) He did it in a minute while I was looking at  iron frames. When I got wind of what he was doing, I asked him to do it again, because he and our son never failed to pass this store without making sure they hadn’t lost their touch:)

If he’s not pulling an iron prank, he might be photographing another wall flower (found by Strands & Stitches, Laguna Beach – 1  1/2 hrs. N. of San Diego)

  Sunset near LA_3803

Many reflections bouncing off car lights into Los Angeles at sunset. But the colors  of the sky are a trade off for traffic:)

*

* More details about the palete: one small water well. The colors are concentrated. The white areas on the palette I use  for mixing my colors.

IS THERE A SUBJECT WHERE YOU CAN GO OFF IN GAZILLION TANGENTS?
(like I do here?)

  1. Happy Monday Jesh – I hope your week includes the opportunity to be out and about with your field palette, with gorgeous sunsets and I was going to say some iron pranks thrown in for fun, but that might be taken the wrong way ;)!

  3. The iron gate is gorgeous, especially as inspiration for your lovely painting of the gate, spilling flowers, lamp, and roof. As an artist, I can see that your traveling palette would come in very handy, what a nifty idea.

  4. oh, the water colour is so beautiful. I love it. It must be so lovely to sit and sketch and paint. And the little colour pallette seems just perfect for carrying around.

    1. First I thought “Is Roger drunk?” But then I thought that couldn’t effect you that much (your typos threw me off) so then I deconstructed your comment to get to the “deeper” meaning …My kind of palette is always colorful:)

  7. Wonderful photos, Jesh! Thanks for visiting. Yes Princess Beatrix is probably thinking of all the previous” Koninginne dagen” today, the day we were used to celebrate her mother’s and her birthday.
    Have a great day!

  8. Love the little field palette and your watercolour sketch. I do like an iron gate myself in all their variety. Our local ornamental ironsmith who can make anything calls his business Stately Gates.
