A real pleasure to get to know the Italian culture
and walk through the longest and busiest business street
in Lucca, Italy(45 min. from Florence, or Firenze)
it’s undoubtedly Villa Fillungo.
One of my family kept asking after we returned in June,
“What about Pisa?”
Well, at one time Pisa may have been a well known place
because of the leaning tower,
but now it’s an obscure town with not much to do, except for the airport.

A reflection in the window from the building across
*
At Via Fillungo you’ll see a large variety:
Expensive clothing (note the draped lamps)
*
*
A sliver of a reflection of the street and the one who took this
shot of a cheese store
*
*
many little quaint places to drink coffee,
dessert, and sandwiches.
Why so many bikes?
*
Once we had taken a wrong turn and ended up
driving for about an hour (not exaggerated) with our rental car through
this street, zigzagging around all the people strolling at night
that’s why people opt for a bike!
*

One of the many side streets. This woman, probably Italian,
nicely dressed and in high heels, even in 100+ degr. F.
The women in the pic above this one, are tourists.
Much more casually dressed,
with comfortable footwear. Many wearing hats.

there’s a flower festival in the Fall in Lucca.
Overall I’ve seen many of the same flowers here
as in California, where I live
*
*
Was too busy to look at the clouds while shopping,
but we did have a few cloudy days,
mostly clearing up later in the day
*
I love this street because
Via Fillungo still has the charm of Italy without the touristy overtones
with an almost overwhelming amount of shoe stores
(had the wrong sandals with me:( )
and other stores I’m going to show in another post.

Beautiful images and narratives. Now I regret not making it to Lucca during ny last trip to Italia. I love charming streets with quant shops and cafe and not too toursity. I would surely enjoy walking along Via Fillungo. I may end up taking home one of those gorgeous draped lamps.. And thanks for the tip; I’ll nake sure to rent a bike!

How wonderful! The small places away from the biggest tourist attractions are usually the best. Traffic in Italy can be pretty crazy.

Italy is beautiful! It has been a long time since I was there. Most of our holidays we spent in Scandinavia or in the U.K. Nowadays I go to Australia more often than to other places.
Have a great week.
