Momma Llama in AMADOR COUNTY

Poppies2014April_1759

The ascent of this hill looks a little like I’m feeling.
I don’t know where and what the end will be.
Everything seems out of kilter
but for now I’m enjoying
these beautiful rolling hills!

Orange poppies  blooming  along the Grapevine  – a stretch of freeway that can be treacherous because of steep hill sides – on our way to Amador county, S.E. of Sacramento

Since we were driving I obviously  couldn’t take this close up these blooms so close to the ground.
Took this pic several years earlier when we went one time specifically to see the poppy fields.
Seeing the half deteriorated and wilted parts of flowers next to it, makes it more true to life, don’t you think?

Amador County is known for its vineyards Love the sight of a vineyard. No doubt you’ll see a painting of that in the future. They needed the rain that fell on Friday

discovered the next day it had snowed over night when we came down the mountains (at elevations of 3000 feet and highe)r. Thought on making this a black and white, but decided to leave this sky in their natural colors which as more bluish , brown, and charcoal grays:)

Now, in contrast, since Monday –  a very hot wind (nothing like it!) is sweeping over the area I live, making temps soar.

*

Am a city kid, but wouldn’t mind to trade it for these landscapes! DO YOU HAVE A TRADE-OFF?

(if you wanted to, that is)

  1. Beautiful scenery … the poppies and rolling hills — vineyard and llamas (one of my favorite animals). Enjoyed this little tour. Have a great week.

  2. The llamas would probably like to roam the rolling hills, though maybe there is not enough grazing there. The poppies are cheerful, I like the plastic wrap effects. I hope mine come back this year.

  3. I guess we live in the same neck of the woods..so to speak.
Our next day trip is going to be to the vineyards of Amador County.
Love the llamas too. Lots of llama ranches around Newcastle, Penryn and Auburn.

  4. Wonderful shots, Jesh 🙂 Beautiful poppies, and love that dramatic sky!! Trade-off? I live a lovely rural area, so I don’t really need to.

  5. LOVE THE poppies. And I love that part of California. As for the Gold….it went over the mountain. California over the Sierra’s into Nevada—Virginia City! so, we share it! LOL
We lived in the central valley of CA for 5 years…about 18 years ago. My father in law still lives in Valley Springs.

  6. Oh what a great trip — such interesting country. It has been way too long since we’ve been there. Love the poppies — there are yellow ones blooming all over here (we’re back in Oregon now), I don’t remember seeing so many back when we lived here … I guess they are wandering up the coast from your area!

  8. You were lucky to see some poppies on the Grapevine. Our winter has been so dry here in CA that there aren’t many wild flowers this year. I miss the poppies turning entire hillsides orange.

  9. These photos are tremendous, a wonderful journey! Thank you for linking with Today’s Flowers. I love the California Poppy and remember them fondly when we used to live in CA many years ago.

  10. Oh, California poppies are my favorite! I love it when mine bloom at the same time as the purple iris. Doesn’t happen often, but once in a while. When it does, it’s a spectacular sight!

  11. California poppies are very colorful. They grow around here too. Nice shot of the Llamas and other critters behind the fence and I liked the shot with the yellow wild flowers too.

  12. I never went into the wine country when I lived in California. Stayed near the ocean; didn’t have a car. It is so beautiful there. Hard choice to make, city or countryside, especially in CA! {:-D
