Tea Garden San Francisco

We decided to visit San Francisco, before bringing our son to the airport for his flight back to his study in the Netherlands.  The Japanese Tea Garden inside Lake Park seemed nice on this cold haha day (51 degr.) with an icy wind. Were so surprised that still so many were visiting.
This park is a few miles long and is compared to Central Park  in New York.

a weak attempt to smile:)

Nothing makes you forget the cold like a nice hot cup of tea (even though we were still sitting outside!). All the pics in this post were taken by hubby, because I  wasn’t feeling well, and when evening came I was so unwell that I wasn’t able to go with hub and son to the airport.

Across from where we were sitting,  I saw a man in his fifties (?) for the longest time sitting very still, staring ins blau hinein (German expression for staring into the blue sky). When I mentioned  that to hubby, he responded, “He is not thinking. He is seeing where he needs to cut the tree he sits in front of.” Then I saw the garden scissors in his hand…

Most bushes were kept low, and everything was to the very tiny details harmonious. I think these are catskins?

Amazingly, some actually were crossing this bridge (most of them young). Of course hubby and son had to try this too. Since they’re both very tall, it was easy-peasy for them. Son in blue jeans.

  4. Oh, I’m so sorry that you weren’t feeling well, but wow, I’m glad that you brought us some photos of that beautiful garden! I was there once a long time ago (I think it was 1992!) and I really enjoyed it – I totally remember that bridge, too 🙂
And thanks for your sweet comment on my blog!

  5. The Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco is one of my favourite parts. I love the landscaping and the traditional structures there. Are the white Cherry Blossoms there, yet. I love this place for showing me that sight as well.
If you are into flowers, you might want to visit Vasona Park in Los Gatos, it is beautiful in the Spring with what looks like wild flowers. I went a couple of years back. And it was quite a visual treat.
This might tempt you to go see it http://www.dnambiartravelblog.com/2014/04/vasona-park-in-spring.html 😉

  6. Oh Jesh, I hope you feel better soon. Beautiful pictures (your son does look quite tall up on that bridge). We have enjoyed Botanical Gardens in so many wonderful places. I was just looking through my blog posts to answer someone’s question and came to one about the Mitori Gardens in Martha’s Vineyard. That was a beautiful one. But there are so many!

  7. Wow so beautiful, and i love your choice of shots for this post. I smiled much on the way down specially climbing that wheel bridge, i wanted to see also the landscape it was put on. I wonder if it is water or if plain soil so how can that tall structure entice people to climb it? hahaha.

    1. Thank you for visiting my blog! Since we moved in the summer we are only 3 1/2 hrs. away from San Francisco, so I hope to see more. We’ve been there 3 times, but the weather has been cold or foggy:)

  9. What a beautiful tour of the gardens. I notice you did not speak of a koi pond. I remember that they shut the koi pond down years ago (Someone fed the fish glass!). I assumed they brought it back after a while. Such a sad thing. But I see that the gardens are even more beautiful than I remember them.

    1. Thank you for visiting! Yes I’m fine, and speak with son weekly on Skype. Knipsa, I wanted to see some of your blog posts, but didn’t discover how to see and comment on them… please tell me:)

  10. This park looks delightful! I love the ornamental shrubs and trees. I hope you are feeling better now. 🙂

One of my favorite local places is the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. Although not technically a park it was purchased by a horticultural society and has trees and shrubs imported from all over the world. There is a guide to all of them to discover. It is also rich with wildlife and amazing headstones (of course).

  11. How beautiful the park is. We don’t have anything like this anywhere near here…of course the climate wouldn’t be friendly to it. The bridge looked like more than I would want to try…..Michelle

  12. So – it really is demanding to keep a Japanese garden tidy!
My favourite Botanical gardens are Blandy’s in Madeira, and of course Kongsvoll Alpine Garden located at the mountain Dovre in Norway, where my daughter worked this (and next) summer!
