A few days before Valentine’s Day I saw this image in my mind of A Book of Love – it’s not finished yet (17 3.4 x 12 inch) , but I thought to wish you much love in your life!
(drawn from scratch otherwise it would be cheating, lol. Then watercolor, over that – soft pastel
Sacramento does not have much of the “umph”
of a State capital. Especially not for a state like California. Los Angeles and San Francisco have gone far beyond in stature and important looks.
What was later built on to Sacramento, such as Folsom, or El Dorado Hills shows it more. The houses and the stores say it. The people’s cars, clothes, and attitudes do too – the latter is not always my favorite part.

An awesome bookstore. Not only a marvelous selection, but the way they display is pleasing to the eye!
When we visited here it was such nice weather! While I’m working on this post (Friday night) , the power went off three times. After I gathered all the news,
– there’s a big storm from San Francisco to Sacramento and even
1 1/2 hrs. East – to where we live and North.
Many power outages and people without electricity.
A large fire in Fresno as well as some homes already been lost..
On Sunday our jaw dropped when we saw flooding everywhere
Water in little streams finding its way down and overnight have become rivers

I love paper! Books, note books, newspaper etc. The smell, touch…Exploring in a book/paper shop for me is the same as smell of chocolate for others! 🙂

Well I agree with your description of sacramento – very toned down compared to the other cities and well, the 3 or 4 times we were there- just did not feel like a capital – especially for the grand state of CA! so I agree….

Shame about the flooding. I think State Capitals are often chosen for location not for being the biggest city. That is certainly true in three of the states where we’ve lived: Oregon, Washington, and Florida. Salem, Olympia and Tallahasee are definitely not the biggest best known cities in those states.
And in Alaska the capital isn’t even accessible by road (One person up there told us “we like to keep the politicians separate from the rest of us.”) Seriously, you have to fly or take the ferry to get to Juneau.

I live int he suburbs of Denver. We have a beautiful capital building but the upkeep always falls on the taxpayer and I think the people need to have more say in the matters of the upkeep and such. I always loved to recite the state capitals when I was a kid! I was really good at it!

It looks a classy. manageable city. The weather does seem extra crazy this winter. I’m in LA tonight and I can’t believe how hot it is! I hope the storms don’t cause you too much trouble.

Don’t know where in L.A. you are, but if it’s too hot, go to one of the beach cities – Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel. Corona del Marl or Newport Beach – it’s mostly 10 degr. cooler there, or even better, Balboa Island (it’s connected to the mainland). Hope you have a car – otherwise it’s hard to get around:(

No car 😦 Didn’t seem worth it for such a brief visit. Off to Vegas tomorrow for a conference.
I’ve never been here without a car before so it’s interesting using the public transport! Actually, the metro has worked pretty well for me so far and I’m trying out the bus today 🙂
I’m staying in downtown and have been walking a lot – lots of photos of old signs and run down buildings to come soon 🙂
