Driving to the middle of nowhere?
Au contraire, that in this New Year NEW DOORS open, a PATH will emerge,
and STARS along the way for the “nights” you go through!
“If you play, they’ll come” is a great promise, and has several times been true in my own life.
I thought it would be fitting for the first month of 2014.

Remember you learned in school that
three-fourths of Holland is won out of the sea
and most of this country is below sea level?
*
However, in Giethoorn, in the East,
called the Venice of Holland,
the water ways are the “roads” in town
The houses have a bridge to cross the waterway,
so we took most of our pics from a bridge with a down view

If you buy boats, they’ll come!
Every few minutes we were approached with much zeal
that the only way to go downtown was with their boat.

For a weekday in May it was busy with tourists.
Moi, in white jacket contemplating where to lunch.
Half an hour later, Derek and Priscilla, hubby and I each had a thin pancake on the patio here
as big as a pizza with raisins soaked in liquor (Boerejongens/Farmersboys)
topped with powdered sugar –
delicious and so filling – I could only eat half of it.

the title of the post refers to our good friends Derek and Priscilla,
he an instrumentalist, she a singer. Life does not always bring us the roses,
but from own experience I can say that if you play (keep playing), they’ll come!
If you wonder: usually he plays the guitar, bass, and a few other instruments.
Here the ramshorn, which is used on specific occasions, as a declaration
which would be fitting for the New Year.

We noticed every house had their own private boat in front or on the side of their house..
Going to the post office, the grocery store in my boat
instead of on the bike or with the car.
*
*
I think I wouldn’t mind living like that. Would you?

I just returned from 3 years in the Netherlands but never made it to Geithoorn. In fact, I was living in Limburg where it’s actually above sea level. But I previously lived in Hoorn and it’s beautiful there on the water. Well, most all of the Netherlands is beautiful! I love this post of your visit.

Using a small boat for day to day things would sure be a different way of life. Slower… It sounds nice to me. Love your photos of this beautiful place. I have to admit that right now all I can think about is that pancake thing you only ate half of. May I please have the other half?
I hope you had a great holiday season!

It would certainly make one feel zealous and zesty to have to transport oneself to buy the groceries in the pouring rain! But in the summer, it would be fun.
